Buying a property is a complex process, so take your time and remember that knowledge is power. Here are some tips to help you in the process:

How many houses to see
Do not try to view 20 or 30 houses on the same day, this will put your brain on overload. If you view such a large number at once, you probably will not remember specific details about any of them.

A second look
After viewing homes for a few days, you will probably know which ones are your favourites. Ask to see them again. You will see them with different eyes and notice elements that were overlooked the first go-around.

Ask questions
Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Buying a property isn’t an every day experience. It might be a good idea to bring a friend along.

Take your time
Don’t let yourself be pressured by the seller or the real estate agent. Make a list of the positive reasons for buying the house. Make a list of the negative reasons as well.

Look around
Pay attention to the home's surroundings. What is next door? Do bigger homes tower over yours? Do you like the location? Is it near a park, school or a power plant? Rate every home immediately after leaving on a scale of 1 to 10

Get pre-qualified
If you can, get pre-qualified for a loan. This gives you, the buyer, a lot more leverage when it comes to negotiating a price on a home.

Property inspection
It is highly recommended that you get a property inspection. This way you will know what you are buying. Inspection reports are great negotiating tools when it comes to asking the seller to make repairs.

Home insurance
As soon as the seller accepts yur offer, start shopping for insurance. Don't wait until the last minute to get insurance when you do not have time to shop around.
