Sellers want their homes to sell fast and bring top dollar. What makes this happen is careful planning and knowing how to spruce up your home. Here are some tips on how to prep your house for sale:

De-Clutter
People collect an amazing quantity of junk. Consider this: if you haven't used it in over a year, you probably don't need it. Clean off everything on kitchen counters. Put essential items used daily in a small box that can be stored in a closet when not in use.

Organize Bedroom Closets and Kitchen Cabinets
Buyers might open closet and cabinet doors, if they see everything organized, this says you probably take good care of the rest of the house as well. So stack dishes neatly and ang shirts together, buttoned and facing the same direction. Line up shoes.

Rent a Storage Unit
A home shows better with less furniture. Remove pieces of furniture that block the way and put them in storage. Leave just enough furniture in each room to showcase the room's purpose and leave plenty of room to move around.

Make Minor Repairs
  • Replace cracked floor or counter tiles.
  • Fix leaky faucets.
  • Fix doors that don't close properly and kitchen drawers that jam.
  • Consider painting your walls neutral colors.
  • Replace burned-out light bulbs.
  • If you've considered replacing a worn bedspread, do so now!
Make the House Sparkle!
  • Wash windows inside and out.
  • Polish chrome faucets and mirrors.
  • Clean out the refrigerator.
  • Vacuum.
  • Wax floors.
  • Dust furniture, ceiling fan blades and light fixtures.
  • Replace worn rugs.
  • Hang up fresh towels.
Clean up the outside
If the exterior is not inviting, then buyers may not even take the time to look inside. The front entry is the first impression of your house, mow the lawn and trim the bushes, paint faded window trim, plant some flowers.

Odors Strive to eliminate any unpleasant odors and if possible, have someone else care for your pets until the house is sold.
